Paul Ryan to Speak at Local Rotary Event in July, Reschedules for September

Original date in July moved to September 6 as House will still be in session.

The Whitnall Park Rotary features guest speakers at all of their weekly meetings, however, they've opted for the large banquet room that seats 300 for their September 6 luncheon.

The reason?  U.S. Congressman Paul Ryan, whose name has been in the forefront as the Chairman of the House Budget Committee and an outspoken opponent of the Obama administration's health care policies, will be that week's guest speaker.

"We have great speakers come in every week to instruct our members, and we are delighted to have Congressman Ryan in attendance in July," said Gilbert Frenn, speaker and host chairman for the Rotary.

Frenn said they also wanted to provide an idea to potential members what Rotary has to offer them as well, but admits many will want to attend to hear Ryan speak and potentially get to ask questions.

The original date of July 19 had to be rescheduled because the House of Representatives will not be in recess as originally planned.

According to the Whitnall Park Rotary's website, they were "informed on Friday morning, July 8, that U.S. Representative Paul Ryan must reschedule his plans to speak at the club luncheon on Tuesday, July 19.  As a result of the issues that loom before it, the U.S. Congress will not be in recess as planned."

"WPRC has rescheduled him for Tuesday, September 6, the last Tuesday he has available in this calendar year," the statement continued. "Those who have already registered and paid online for July 19 will be contacted to determine whether they wish to come on the rescheduled date, September 6, or have their credit cards credited with the applicable refund. WPRC regrets this turn of events and hopes that all will understand the reason for Rep. Ryan's not being able to be present on July 19."

The meeting will be held at Klemmer's Banquet Center, 10401 W. Oklahoma Ave., with check in beginning at 11:30, and lunch at noon.  Cost is $15, but there will be no walk-ins allowed.

People interested in pre-registering can visit the Whitnall Park Rotary website to reserve their seat. Pre-registration closes on August 28.
