New Poll Has Walker Up by Five Points

A new Rasmussen Reports poll indicates Gov. Scott Walker has 50 percent of the vote while Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett comes in at 45 percent.

If the recall election were held today, a new poll indicates Gov. Scott Walker could come out the winner.

According to Rasmussen Reports, Walker would pull in 50 percent of the vote while Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett would garner 45 percent of the vote. Two percent would choose someone else and two percent are still undecided.

Rasmussen surveyed 500 likely voters by telephone on May 9, the day after the , when both Walker and Barrett beat out real and "protest" challengers.

With a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percent, though, perhaps the points between the candidates more closely mirrors the results of a that shows Walker and Barrett in a dead heat.

Survey results for that poll were taken between April 26-29 and show that Walker leads by one point, 48 to 47, among likely voters while Barrett leads by one point, 47 to 46, among registered voters.

Walker and Barrett before the June 5 general election.

Rasmussen Reports used these questions to solicit the answers that determined the outcome of the survey:

1* On June 5th there will be a special recall election for governor.  If the election were held today, would you vote for Republican Scott Walker or Democrat Tom Barrett?

2* I’m going to read you a short list of people in the news. For each, please let me know if you have a very favorable, somewhat favorable, somewhat unfavorable, or very unfavorable impression.

Scott Walker

Tom Barrett

3* Generally speaking, how would you rate the U.S. economy these days? Excellent, good, fair, or poor?

4* Are economic conditions in the country getting better or worse?

5* Do you strongly favor, somewhat favor, somewhat oppose or strongly oppose unions for public employees?

6* How would you rate the job Scott Walker has been doing as governor… do you strongly approve, somewhat approve, somewhat disapprove, or strongly disapprove of the job he’s been doing?

@Patriot - I believe George the Second will go down as the worst U.S. President of all time. And you voted for him and supported him like he was a god. There goes any cred you think you have. Give us a break and retreat. What a disgrace Bush was, no decent Republican even brings him up today.

@Dirk-Stop!! When did I ever say Bush was my hero!! Funny how you constantly spin things, accuse me of saying things or telling me how I feel. Bush most def had his flaws but then again I had lots more disposible income under bush than I've had and have under Obama. I was paying way less at the pump under bush than I am paying under Obama. Dirk you just feel its neccessary to constantly be on the attack. Just like the Debate last night. Barrett could only attack, had nothing of his own and with every attack Walker had FACTS!!! Hard to dispute the facts. I mean after all lets not cloud the story with facts
Patriot May 26, 2012 at 09:37 AM
Are you kidding me? Barrett looked like a total clown. He had ZERO facts to back up his accusations!! With every attack on Walker, the Gov had facts backing up his record thus far. Dirk just give up buddy. Its really hard to argue that Walkers reforms are working thus the election is not longer about act 10 or jobs now it has shifted to the John Doe. But as Walker stated the John Doe was initiated from his office back when he was County Exec. So basically Barrett has nothing. Plus Barrett did not even tell the audience what he would do to Move the State forward!! All he could say when asked is well you have to have trust. So I would develop that trust. Sounds great that should move the State forward.. HAhahahaha Dirk you make me laugh.

ALEC is unlike any other special interest group. Far from common place, no other group has the scope and scale that they do, let alone the high number of legislators as members. Even if there were a group like them on the left, that would not justify their subversion of democracy. Here's another write-up listing the legislation that originated from ALEC - http://www.communityforchange.com/WIModelLegislation.html ALEC operates as a charitable non-lobby group but is blatantly flying in the face of Wisconsin and possibly Federal law. If our Attorney General does his job he will investigate and prosecute them for the violations. Thankfully not everyone has such a cynical view and understands the higher ground is ethics and the principles of law. "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." -- Thomas Jefferson
