Madison to Chicago Relay Race Will Enter Greendale

The exchange point will be at Martin Luther High School

The Ragner Relay Chicago 2011 race, expected to start in Madison in end in Chicago, will pass through Greendale.

The board approved a permit from Ragnar Events LLC last night.

The relay will use Martin Luther High School as an exchange point and is also a fundraiser for the high school.

The race will start in Madison on June 10 and finish in Chicago’s Lincoln Park on June 11. They anticipate 400 teams will participate in the relay with each team being comprised of 12 people and two vans.  About 4,800 participants and 800 vehicles are anticipated to be involved.

Only one person from each team will be running while the rest of the team will be in two vans. Only 400 runners will be on the course at a time and will be spread out.

The first runners will start in Madison at Olin/Turville Park at 6 a.m. and the last runners at 3 p.m.

In Greendale the participants will run down 76th Street, turn onto Grange Avenue and then turn onto Root River Parkway.

The race course typically follows sidewalks, running paths, bike lanes, and road shoulders. No lanes of traffic will be closed. All participants are required to wear reflective vests, headlamps, and LED lights during nighttime hours. There will be no food, water, alcohol, private security, sales, or amplified music at the event.

It’s estimated that the first runner will enter the village at 10 p.m. on June 10 and the last runner will leave the village at 4:30 a.m. on June 11.

First-aid stations and first-aid staff will be located at Martin Luther High School.
