Greendale DPW Building Might be Getting Upgrades

At the Village Board meeting on Tuesday Village trustee Jim Birmingham explained to the board that the finance committee and staff is reviewing a request to upgrade the building.

Staff has been working with the design firm of BMR Design Group, Inc. to produce the plans, specifications and bid documents for energy efficient and other building upgrades to the Department of Public Works building. The project looks to replace all lighting in the building with new more energy efficient equipment. Other replacements and repairs would include the windows in the front section of the building, drop ceilings in the office areas and toilet rooms, floor finishes, plumbing fixtures, painting, and part of the fencing surrounding the DPW Yard.

The project is funded in the 2011 Annual Budget through the Capital Improvement Fund.

Director of Inspection Services Scott Satula and Village Staff have met with property owners in the Industrial Loop, where the DPW building is located, to gather input and concerns of the area. The major concern, according to Satula, is the unsightly and unappealing barrier around the DPW yard.

Owners are requesting to camouflage the area with better feneing.

The engineering firm, RA Smith National, estimates the cost of $100,000 for the fence, which is based on the use of a composite recycled material for the fencing.  The plans and specifications are completed. Staff estimates that the total building upgrade project will cost approximately $325,000.

The Finance Committee unanimously voted to authorize Inspection Services staff to solicit bids for the for the project.
