Governor Scott Walker to be in Greendale on January 4th

Walker will be at Highland View Elementary School Wednesday to release report.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker will be making an appearance in Greendale on Wednesday January 4.

Walker, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Evers, State Senator Luther Olsen (R-Ripon), and Representative Steve Kestell (R-Elkhart Lake) are scheduled to be at at 8:45 a.m. to release the final report of the "Read to Lead Taskforce" and discuss the state’s first implementation phase.

The press conference will be held in the school's library and is open only to credentialed members of the media, according to a release from Cullen Werwie, press secretary to Walker.

Governor Walker created the task force in April 2011 to 'create initiatives to empower school districts, teachers and parents - not lawmakers - with the ability to decide how to best teach reading and to provide ways to better identify struggling young readers and how to overcome those challenges.'

The task force met throughout the state over the course of last year, culminating in tomorrow's final report.

Why wouldn't they go to Luther Olsen or Steve Kestell's districts for this "announcement?" Where are our senators and assemblyman going to be that they won't be there? I hope he appreciates the recall Walker signs in the neighborhood, I know I do.

This is an elementary school people. Those children don't need to experience the liberal animals. Stay at the zoo today and leave the kids alone. You wrecked their school field trips to the capitol with your crazy antics don't ruin their school day too. Governor Walker is doing a great job and as a family of public workers we're supporting him. It's time for all to pay their fair share and stop draining the taxpayers because you feel entitled. If your recall works be prepared for a ton of public worker layoffs and that includes teachers people. WEAC is the worst offender of the entitlement mentality.

morninmist...make sure you get your facts straight before you post. Highland View Elementary is NOT a charter school. The 4K program is a charter program. Kudos to the Governor for coming to Greendale where reading is a priority and our children are learning. It's a shame that such young kids are going to have to see the ugly side of politics today during this great message.

Scott Walker is presenting a plan to help improve our children's education, and there will be lefties there to protest, great message to send to our children! must be WEAC members!

"Than he is off to collect some cash!" Fund raising is a reality that all politicians have to engage in. Curious morninmist, did it also bother you when Governor Jim Doyle was raking in cash from his list of special interest groups?? I suspect not. Why do you think Governor Doyle picked up the nickname - "Diamond Jim" Doyle?? It wasn't because he was lucky at cards, I can tell you that.

Kestell and Olsen are members of the task force. It was not in the press release if any representatives from the Greendale area will be there.

The Read to Lead Taskforce is a critical initiative that is supported by fact-based research. State Public Instruction Superintendent Tony Evers by all accounts is a liberal, but HE gives his support to this. Other than because of partisan politics, why isn't WEAC supporting this? WEAC states on their website that "We believe that together we can maintain our traditions and keep Wisconsin at the forefront of quality and innovation in public education." Seems to me actions speak louder than words.

Head of DPI Tony Evers is a flaming liberal, but I give him credit for working with Governor Walker because "it's for the kids". Teachers unions will be for the kids when kids pay union dues.

Scott Walker's budget cut $814,000 from Greendale Public Schools this year and 16 teachers retired from Greendale this year (4 times the usual) - and were replaced by less qualified, new teachers - that is why I was there collecting signatures and protesting the Governor (plus the fact that I have 2 children who attend Highland View and had just dropped them off at school)! I find it strange that conservatives think cutting $800,000 from a school system won't hurt the kids, but yet we are in the running to win $100,000 to raise $ for the schools by winning some "holiday lights" contest - because more $ is needed for the schools - This area is soooo full of hypocrites, it's not even funny anymore.

What task force? The one that has taken billions from the schools? To change what is norm for personal, political or religous reasons is an act of perversion according to websters defintion of pervert. This best explains this task force and it`s members. Why are they all GOP? Good Old Pervs. This is an insult to anyone smarter than a first grader Luther and scooter. You are sure counting on the village idiots.
