Gateway Arch on Northway Sent to Planning Commission

The gateway arch, which will be located near an approved LED sign, is part of an effort to attract more visitors into the Village Center for events and local shopping.

Three possible designs for a gateway arch at Northway and Grange Avenue were sent for review to the Planning Commission by the Village Board at Tuesday’s meeting.

The proposed arch would be on Northway, about 60 feet south of the intersection with Grange Avenue, near a new 

The arch and the LED sign are part of an ongoing effort to bring visitors to the boutiques, shops and restaurants that comprise the quaint Village Center.

The final design proposals are based off an initial design concept presented by R.A. Smith. Poblocki Sign Company has worked with staff to complete the three final designs for the gateway arch. PDFs of the designs can be found attached to this article. 

The proposed gateway arch would include an illuminated sign announcing “Historic Downtown Greendale”. The designs are similar, but the feature different fonts, shape of the illuminated sign and different styling. Masonry would be a small replica of the hose tower on the Grounds Building in the Municipal Parking Lot.

The Village and Village Center business owners started talking about new signage started last summer.

There will be some underground utilities that need to be relocated in advance of the gateway arch foundation work. The estimated cost for this work is $115,000. Grandhaven, LLC., owner of some of the Broad Street strip, has agreed to fund half the cost of the gateway arch.
