County Supervisor Joe Sanfelippo Running for State Assembly Seat

Sanfelippo, a Republican whose County Board district includes Greendale, said he will continue to build on the progress the state has seen over the past year.

West Allis resident and Milwaukee County Board Supervisor Joe Sanfelippo will run for the 15th District's seat in the Wisconsin State Assembly in the fall election.

Sanfelippo (R-West Allis) made the announcement Monday that he will throw his name in the ring to represent the newly redrawn district that includes parts of West Allis and New Berlin. Tony Staskunas (D-West Allis) is in his seventh term as the district's representative.

Sanfelippo, a Republican whose County Board district includes Greendale, said in a news release he will continue to build on the progress the state has seen over the past year.

"Competition among states for attracting and retaining businesses that will provide good paying, reliable jobs is fierce," he said. "We as legislators and citizens need to make sure that when our kids finish school, whether it is at the college, graduate, technical, or trade school level, they have the opportunity and incentive to stay right here in Wisconsin. This is how we will continue moving Wisconsin forward.”

As a state representative, Sanfelippo said he would work to continue improving the business climate by eliminating what he called "outdated, costly regulations" so that Wisconsin can compete for business that will provide reliable, good-paying jobs.

While on the County Board, Sanfelippo has served as Chairman for the Personnel Committee and the new Behavioral Health Facility Study Committee.

In 1980, at the age of 16, Sanfelippo began his first business selling fruits and vegetables, sod, topsoil and nursery stock on 35th Street and Forest Home Avenue. This business, which Sanfelippo operated for 25 years, eventually turned into a landscaping business with more than 60 employees.

Sanfelippo and his wife Becky, a parochial school teacher in Milwaukee, have been married for 24 years and have three children: Andrea, Joe and Gina. The family has lived in the City of West Allis since 1993.
