Woman Charged After Police Say She Struck 93-Year-Old With Car

Ma Soledad Rojas Cortez, 53, of Milwaukee, was charged with a felony in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on July 3, after police say she was driving without a valid license.

A 53-year-old Milwaukee woman accused of hitting a 93-year-old woman with her car outside of Walmart on 76th Street in Greendale, faces 3 ½ years of imprisonment for driving without a valid license at the time of the accident.

Ma Soledad Rojas Cortez was charged with the felony in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on July 3.

According to the criminal complaint, a witness told Greendale police Rojas Cortez struck the elderly woman as she turned out of the Walmart parking lot, 5301 S. 76th St., on June 24

Rojas Cortez told police, through her, nephew who served as a translator, she did not see the 93-year-old, who was using her walker to get across 76th Street.

Rojas Cortez was driving with a Wisconsin Instructional Permit, which only allows her to operate a motor vehicle with a licensed driver beside her, according to the complaint. She was driving with 7-year-old granddaughter at the time of the accident.

The victim was taken to St. Luke’s hospital where a doctor told police she suffered a broken pelvis and broken vertebra and would need as many as two months of rehabilitation.

A warrant has been issued for Rojas Cortez’s arrest.
