Thousands Stolen from Fox Point Woman During Shopping Trip at Mall

Her purse was never out of her site, but thief stole her credit cards and charged nearly $4,300 on them.

Keeping your purse close by can be the difference between a cheap or expensive trip to the mall.

received a complaint from a 30-year-old Fox Point woman who claims someone stole her credit and debit cards, and used them to rack up a bill of nearly $4,400.

She was at Southridge Mall in Greendale on May 31 between noon and 5:30 p.m., according to the police report. She said that the only time she used any of her credit or debit cards was in the food court at Dairy Queen and Subway. She told officers that at no other time did she remove her wallet from her purse, nor did her purse leave her possession.

At some point during the time she was at Southridge, someone had removed the small wallet from her purse and used the cards at the following stores:

  • Target, in Greenfield, for $1,800
  • Walmart, in Delafield, for $2,064.67
  • Walmart, no location in the report, for $528.20.

Police have no suspects and no one in custody at this time.

Last spring a family member went to a nail salon at Southridge for the first time and paid by credit card (that was the first visit to Southridge in months, btw). Somehow that credit card number was used at the mall's Payless shoes for a purchase of $200+, which fortunately was successfully disputed. It's interesting to note that most of the money stolen from this poor woman (who won't make the mistake of returning to Southridge again soon, I imagine) was spent at Walmart. The new crap Walmart on S. 76th will make it so much more convenient for thieves, who will be able to spend up stolen credit cards much more quickly. I guess we can look forward to a property tax increase soon enough to pay for the extra police support that will be needed after Walmart opens.

Those are some interesting thoughts, Bren. Thank you for sharing. There were quite a handful of purse snatchings in Fox Point over the last few months as well. These were stolen from locked vehicles though, but seems to be a pattern of those stolen credit and debit cards being used at places like Walmart after the fact.
