Police Use Taser on Suspected Jean Thief

A Greendale police officer used his taser on a 21-year-old Milwaukee man accused of stealing a pair of jeans from a store at Southridge Mall.

Jeramie Lewis was charged with misdemeanor retail theft and obstructing/resisting an officer in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Sept. 16.

Two days earlier, according to court documents, Lewis walked into the fitting room at the Buckle, a clothing store, with three pairs of jeans valued at $464. Police say he removed the theft detection devices from one pair and concealed it under his sweatshirt.

When an officer stopped Lewis, Lewis pulled his arm away from the officer and would not allow the officer to place handcuffs on, according to the complaint. The officer tased Lewis because he continued to resist arrest, police say.

If convicted, Lewis faces a maximum of 18 months of imprisonment, $20,000 in fines or both.
