Police K-9 Unit Set to Receive $14,000 Donation

A presentation of a check for that amount will be made by the MECA Wisconsin Police Canine Vest Foundation at a Village Board meeting Feb. 5.

The MECA Wisconsin Police Canine Vest Foundation, along with the Stan Lee Kass K-9 Fund, will present a check to the Greendale Police Department for its new K-9 unit at a Village Board meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 5, Village Hall.

The foundation was established by Dr. Marla Lichtenberger, owner of The Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals in Greenfield and is inspired by her work with numerous police K-9 departments.

The foundation is a non-profit organization focusing on vesting every Wisconsin police dog with a bullet resistant and stab-proof vest. In addition, the foundation assists Wisconsin Police K-9 Units with purchasing police dogs.

Greendale will receive $14,000 for its new police dog from the foundation.

“Our police dogs are the first ones sent into harm’s way,” Lichtenberger said in a statement. “They need the same protection their human partners have when risking their lives to save ours.”

Lichtenberger and her foundation made a similar donation to the Greenfield Police Department last year so that department could replace its retired K-9 Badger.

In an effort to continue to raise funds for dogs and vest, the foundation, in partnership with Fox Sports Network, will hold its second annual MECA Vest a K-9 Fest in July. The event last summer, which featured appearances from several Milwaukee Brewers, .
