New Fire Engine Will Cost $575,000 or More

The new fire engine is one of two vehicles the Village Board will discuss purchasing at its meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.

Purchasing a new vehicle is an expensive venture. Especially when that vehicle happens to be a new fire engine.

The Village Board will be asked to approve the purchase of an Arrow XT Pumper, a new fire engine for the Greendale Fire Department that comes with a price tag of approximately $575,000.

The fire department will replace its oldest engine — Engine 402 — which is 21 years old and beyond its service life per National Standards and recommendations, and has a mounting list of deficiencies, according to a memo prepared by Fire Chief Tim Saidler.

The new engine, according to the memo, offers increased reliability, increased firefighter safety due to passive safety systems; increased safety to the community and much greater maneuverability, and will increase in operational efficiency.

The engine would be built by Pierce Manufacturing with the local dealer being Reliant Fire Apparatus – Cedarburg. The preliminary cost is expected to be $594,721. The village, however, can receive a $20,782 discount the engine is paid in full at the time of the contract signing.

The Department of Public Works is in need of a new pick-up truck, according to Director Rob McFaul. The new truck, a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, would cost $22,821. It would replace a 1996 Ford F-250 that was recently sold at auction with 160,000 miles on it.
