Man Faces Charges After Trying to 'Maintain' a Social Status

Suspect, 20, is caught trying to allegedly steal $700 worth of clothes from Macy's so he can keep his social status fashion-wise.

A 20-year-old Milwaukee man is facing charges after he was caught allegedly stealing clothes from a store in order to try and maintain his social standard.

Dawod R. Dawod was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of retail theft. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On June 20, a security officer at spotted Dawod take $700 worth of Polo merchandise and attempt to walk out of the store with the items. The officer saw Dawod looking nervous in the store, then try and leave, but he was stopped with the merchandise.

Dawod admitted to trying to take the clothes and told officers he took the items because he didn’t have any money, but wanted to maintain a certain level of social status in regards to his clothing.

He’s currently free on a $200 signature bond while awaiting trial.
