At 10:33 p.m. on April 20, 2011, Mellock drove his SUV into a home in the 6500 block of Parkview Road. Mellock then went to his home and parked the car in the garage. When police arrived, he was sweating heavily and had labored breathing, and they observed that the car had sustained heavy frontal damage.

Mellock then failed field sobriety tests and was suspected of being intoxicated. A blood test later revealed THC in his blood stream, which is the active ingredient in marijuana.
