Greendale Resident Chases, Knocks Down Man

The homeowner said he came home and found a suspicious man prowling in his backyard. After the suspect tried running away the homeowner said he chased and knocked him down.

A Greendale man found a stranger in his backyard, chased him down and knocked him to the ground. 

When Richard Garcia returned to his home in the 6600 block of Edgerton Avenue on Oct. 17 he discovered a suspicious man in his backyard. 

Garcia told Patch the man said he was looking for his dog. When Garcia told him he was calling the police, the man took off running through backyards on Manchester Street and Edgerton Avenue.

Garcia chased him and tried holding him till police arrived.

"He tried getting away and I ended knocking him down to make sure he didn't get away because I still didn't know what he had done," Garcia said.

Gene M. Hayes, 63, of West Allis, was arrested by Greendale Police for prowling on 68th Street and Edgerton Avenue. He was charged in Milwaukee County last week with one count of attempted burglary for this incident.

In 2001 Hayes was convicted on four counts of burglary and one count of possession of firearm by felon.
