Fire Department Receives Grant to Purchase Pediatric Medical Equipment

Greendale Fire Department received about $950 to buy the "Ped Bag."

The Greendale Fire Department has been awarded about $950 in grant money for a Pediatric Jump Kit Bag (“Ped Bag”) from the General Federation of Women’s Club-Wisconsin’s and Hospital Emergency Preparedness Program of the Wisconsin Division of Public Health.

GFWC-WI and the Preparedness Program has initiated a project to provide Wisconsin ambulances with critical pediatric equipment statewide through fundraising efforts.

A Ped Bag is filled with supplies sized for infants and children in one organized, easily accessible location for EMS providers to use. The supplies in the bag are based on the national EMSC Pediatric Equipment and Supplies for Ambulances lists and the ENA Crash Cards, a nationally recognized color-coding system for treatment of children.

“With this equipment our personnel will be better prepared and equipped to treat these special patients,” said Greendale Fire Chief Tim Saidler.

Elizabeth Davy, Chair of the GFWC-WI project says, “Last year in Wisconsin, more than 30,000 children were so ill or injured they required ambulance transport to a hospital. Our dedicated EMS providers need the right size supplies and equipment to provide the best possible emergency medical care, not only locally but also throughout the state. Ped Bags are one component to a successful outcome for these children. Local residents can help too.”

Saidler extends his gratitude towards the GFWC-WI.

“The Greendale Fire Department, on behalf of the citizens that we serve, would like to thank the General Federation of Woman’s Club of Wisconsin for pursuing this grant and especially the GFWC-WI clubs in the Lakeshore District for raising the monies and bringing this opportunity to us,” Saidler said.
