Cost to Keep Police Officers Cool? $125,000

A new chiller will likely cost approximately $125,000, money that will come from the village's capital improvement plan.

A good trait of a police officer is to maintain one’s cool under pressure.

But that requires to be cool in the first place.

The Village of Greendale is taking steps to ensure the latter. On Tuesday, village trustees voted in favor of collecting bids for a new chiller, or air cooling system, at the police station.

The new chiller will likely cost approximately $125,000, money that will come from the village’s capital improvement plan.

The chiller in place now was installed in 1998, but its style is no longer manufactured and servicing it is expensive, especially because of its age and failing components.

The village spent $4,000 in maintenance in 2011 and more than $6,000 in 2012. The village believes costs will exceed $8,000 this year.
