Woman, 82, Fatally Struck by Car

The intersection of S. 68th St. and Grange Ave was closed off when a Jimmy Johns delivery driver struck and killed an elderly woman Monday night.

An 82-year-old woman was fatally struck by a car near the intersection of Grange Avenue and South 68th Street, near Southridge Mall on Monday night.

Beatrice Salo of Greendale was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders did not try to resusitate her.

Operating the vehicle was a 21-year-old Jimmy John's delivery driver, Matthew N. Pipito of West Allis. Pipito is fully cooperating with police. Police Chief Robert Malasuk said there was no indiciation of illegal substances.

Malasuk said they believe she was walking to or from her home shortly before 7:45 p.m. when she was struck. The woman was in the crosswalk dressed in dark clothing at the time of the accident. Video surveillance shows that the traffic signal was green on Grange Avenue.

The accident has closed off the intersection of Grange Avenue and 68th Street, according to Greendale Police.

The accident is being investigated by Greendale Police. The Wisconsin State Patrol was called in for an accident reconstruction.

We have complained about this intersection since they put the lights in. The Walk lights are not long enough, there is no indicator when the walk light will end. When driving West/east and turning left, you can't see other cars coming over the hill until they get to the interestion. The walk lights are terrible and my friend and I have told the GDP several times.

speaking of crosswalks and intersections, i believe it's only a matter of time before a pedestrian is hit crossing from the east parking lot in downtown Greendale over to the west parking lot to go to Joey Gerard's. people are NOT using the crosswalk at the corner. i've had one close call already with 2 pedestrians. drivers are looking ahead at the crosswalk at the stop sign. i understand you can't have 2 crosswalks that close together. fine - find another solution. or be REACTIVE. your choice, Village.

There is a sign that points to the crosswalk and people still jaywalk!! Again, where is self responsiblity!?!

There are traffic lights and walk/don't walk indicators. This isn't rocket science.

have you been to the grange intersection? i challenge any healthy adult to see how long that light is. i know it is possible to cross grange with the light going north and run out of green light without any indication of how much time you have to cross. i knew from day one it was only a matter of time till someone was hurt or killed. perhaps we only care in Glendale if a child is injured. people do jaywalk, however as a daily walker in Glendale i can tell you that drivers regularly turn into intersections with pedestrians in the crosswalk and ignore or are to ignorant to obey the signs at pedestrian crossways. zebra crossings mean nothing

This is so sad. I knew the woman and she had just moved to the new apartments on grange. She was a sweet lady. I feel sorry for the guy who hit her also cause he will never be able to forget this .
