Obituary: Lloyd O. Peters

Lloyd O. Peters, 84, of Greendale passed away on Aug. 9.

May 9, 1928 – August 9, 2012

Lloyd O. Peters, 84, of Greendale, formerly of Kenosha, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at his home with his family after a short and courageous battle with gallbladder cancer.

Lloyd was born to Otto and Ione (Klug) Peters in Kenosha on May 9, 1928.  Lloyd attended local schools and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1946.  He was active in sports and was a proud member of the Big Eight Conference Championship football team of 1945.

He enlisted in the United States Army and was deployed to Italy with the post World War II occupation forces. Upon his discharge, Lloyd attended Adrian College in Michigan, graduating in 1952 with a degree in Business. He was a lineman on the football team and joined the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, remaining a lifetime member.

Lloyd married the former Anne Uhrin at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kenosha on September 19, 1953 and moved to Milwaukee in the fall of 1955.  In March of 1959 they moved into their newly built home in the “M” section of Greendale where they raised their 5 children all graduating from GHS.

A lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers and the Adrian College Bulldogs, he often traveled back to Michigan for his college homecomings. He greatly enjoyed spending time at the family’s lake property in Rome, Wisconsin and taking walks through Greendale.  Lloyd loved family get-togethers, and was most proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

Lloyd was a member of the American Legion, the Midwest Military Vehicle Association, the Prudential Old Guard and was a Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow.  He retired in 1990 from the Prudential Insurance Co. after 33 distinguished years as an Agent and Staff Manager.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Anne; his children, Thomas (Rosana) of Kenosha, Carol of Oak Creek, Gary of Oak Creek, Steven of Milwaukee and Alan (Janeen) of Muskego and his adoring grandchildren Ryan, Melissa, Kyle, Jacob and Ashley.  He is also survived by his brother Arthur (Beverly) of Pleasant Prairie, sisters-in-law Vaneda Peters, Virginia Peters and Millie Barengo, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Kenneth, Ellsworth, Roger and Forrest Lee.

A memorial service with military honors for Lloyd will take place on Monday, August 20th at Whitnall Park Lutheran Church, 5847 Lilac Ln., Hales Corners, WI. at 5:00 pm.  Visitation will be at the church from 3:00 pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials given to the family will be designated to Lloyd’s favorite charities.

The family would like to thank the nurses at St. Luke’s and Froedtert Hospitals in Milwaukee and all the caregivers at Horizon Home Care & Hospice for their kindness to Lloyd and his family.

We can look up to see who signed a recall of their elected official because of grievances, but weRead More cannot look up who donated large wads of ca$h to the same official's campaign...Thank you GOP for turning that window of open accountability into a one-way mirror with the GOP looking out and everyone else stuck looking inward, wandering why we don't get the same vantage point. A bit hypocritical don't you think? And BTW, your GOP budget just ticked off every principal, superintendent and public school family in the state of WI today. Good luck on that second term of negative growth (-0.74).

Jason- See the IRS for list of donors to pro republican groups. They were illegally collected andRead More distributed. You signed the recall, no one made you do it. Deal with it already and stop changing the subject to interject some off the wall non comparison. ~in solidarity

I think Scott Walker's record speaks for itself in terms of state job growth and misplacedRead More priorities. "Blue fisters" didn't create Scott Walker, he's been a creature of ALEC since the early 1990s. Let's see if he decides to do a Bachmann in 2014. A lot of people who didn't vote in the recall election because they didn't understand/agree may not have voted for him in 2010. Anyone who has a 20-something college grad who can't find a job, male spouse, family member or friend in their 50s who can't find a job, was cut from needed health care benefits, etc., is bound to be looking for better leadership.
