The Wisconsin GOP Wants MORE Guns In Our Schools - Really!

The 2013 Republican Party of Wisconsin State Convention was a gathering of fools, fascists and hypocrites, hell-bent on turning back time on women's rights, sex education, voting and labor rights, but that is nothing new or shocking. The GOP has been trying to move us back into the Guilded Age for decades so that only wealthy white men have the power to vote and make all decisions for the rest of society - In other words, Republican Senators.

But what truly caught my attention and shocked me was a little blurb at the end of their adapted State Convention Resolution on Education that states the Republican Party of Wisconsin:

"Supports allowing properly trained adult staff to be armed in public schools."

The GOP does not elaborate any further - Who do they consider to be "properly-trained adult staff?"

Is a kindergarten teacher, college-trained for five years to teach five year olds properly-trained to carry a loaded gun in her purse, inside her classroom full of children, simply because she took a four hour course at the local MATC in which she read about how to handle a gun?

How insulting that the GOP does not trust our teachers to carry a union card, but they are totally fine with them carrying a loaded, concealed weapon into our schools with our children.

I'm not even sure I like the idea of an armed police officer stationed in an elementary school, much less teachers packing heat, unbeknownst to parents.

State Senator Mary Lazich, who loosely "represents" Greendale is totally on-board with this idea of teachers, who are trained educators, not trained militia, being able to carry loaded weapons in our schools.

Police officers are trained to use firearms - teachers are trained to teach. Period. We should not mix the two.

Senator Lazich and the GOP are dead wrong on this ass backwards attempt to make our schools safer. More guns around children is simply asking for accidents to happen. More children are accidentally killed by guns in America every year than every other country in the world.

Putting more guns within reaching distance of hundreds of children is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of...and I listen to Charlie Sykes, so I hear a lot of stupid stuff!

Other crazy, backwards crap from the Republican Party of Wisconsin Convention Resolutions on Education:

  • Calls for the state legislature to eliminate funding of 4-year-old kindergarten  (so only wealthy families can get a head start)
  • Supports academic efforts that ensure that the presentation of our history and founding Judeo-Christian principles in our educational institutions  (Benjamin Franklin & Thomas Jefferson were NOT Christians)
  • Urges legislation adopting alternative standards for teacher licensing that do not require a degree in education or student-teaching experience (need a substitute for the day - hire the janitor dude!)
  • Urges that if political issues are discussed, that multiple opinions be presented to represent a more fair discussion and to allow for debate (too bad they don't follow these rules on the Senate floor)
  • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we urge libraries in all publicly-funded schools have a balance of reading materials that reflect conservative values (Wall Street Journal subscription?)
  • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we endorse that the U. S. Department of Education should be abolished - (who needs over-sight?)
  • WHEREAS, virtual schools have come under attack by the leadership of the state teacher’s union - (Attack? Maybe you shouldn't be allowing these union thugs to carry guns then?)
