.

Democrats Treat Dogs Like People, Republicans Treat People Like Dogs . . .

. . . and Mitt Romney treats dogs and people like road kill.

This is an old story as far as I'm concerned, but I think it is worth repeating because much to my surprise, my wife wasn't aware of it until I mentioned it in passing - so it is quite possible that many people are not aware of why Mitt Romney is finding himself in the dog house lately. Here's the story:

In 1983 the Romneys were driving from Boston, MA to Ontario for a family getaway. The family truckster was loaded to the brim and probably getting all of 9 miles per gallon on this 12 hour trip. They packed a lot of things, including the family dog, Seamus, and Irish Setter.

But where was Seamus? In the back of the wagon with the luggage? Sitting in the front seat on his wife's lap, sleeping soundly while getting a nice belly rub from mom? Nope, Seamus was in a kennel which was strapped to the roof of the car as they chugged down the interstate at speeds over 55mph. Can you envision this? Today, people would have used their cell phones to call the police on Mitt for animal cruelty, ending the torture for this poor dog. But not in 1983...

Mitt only stopped the car to "check" on poor Seamus when his kids complained about the diarrhea streaming down the windows from the nervous and completely freaked-out family hood ornament, I uh mean "pet". Did Mitt learn his lesson? Hell no, he simply hosed off the car, hosed off the dog and shoved him back back into his hell hole on the roof of the car and kept going.

I don't know about you, but I could never vote for a man who takes his human/animal relations cues from Clark w. Griswold and Michael Vick and a "man" who takes his employee relations cues from Mr. Scrooge and Mr. Potter ("It's A Wonderful Life").

A "man" who has no respect for animals and thinks dogs make good hood ornaments has no business leading a country. A "man" who cares little about the lively-hoods of his employees and their families because he sees nothing wrong with making a quick million for himself by cutting hundreds of jobs with the slash of a pen has no damn business running a country, especially one trying to climb out of a GOP-caused recession.

Don't forget anti-dogs-in-the-car too, R Still. BTW, how do you feel about Teddy Kennedy's drive into the drink, Clinton's little dalliance in the Oval Office, John Edwards screwing around behind his cancer-striken wife's back, Anthony's Weiner, JFK's turning the WH into the Playboy Mansion East? Any of that matter to you? Or do you just rationalize those away?
CowDung March 26, 2012 at 10:42 PM
Bren: The 'needs of the people' are to have a company in business so they can have a job. Bain Capital saved a lot of companies from going out of existence (along with the jobs they provide)...
R Still Day March 26, 2012 at 10:47 PM
@ Bob McBride - See that's the difference between us Bob, Democrats do NOT approve of cheating, lying stealing etc. and we don't reward it like Republicans do. It's almost a badge of "honor" for Teapublicants. Take the case of Rep. Vitter, a wife cheater on the DC Madame's "client" list. When HE got caught they gave him a dinner and a standing ovation, when Weiner got caught with his pants down, he was forced to resign. Hypocrisy? The Teapublicants invented it! http://blogs.e-rockford.com/applesauce/2011/06/16/a-few-differences-between-the-respective-sex-scandals-of-anthony-weiner-and-david-vitter/

I read hundreds of posts on Cheney after his heart transplant on Huffington Post and couldn't find a single one, whether they agreed with the man or not, that wished him any ill. I know we have more class than that. So not sure where you read that, but it sure wasn't the thousands of posts on HP. Also wasn't it nice that he had great health insurance that would cover such huge costs. The same that Teapublicants would deny to Working class America.

As usual JB, you have no idea what you are talking about. How many YouTube videos were there of Wright preaching? Three? 20 years of preaching. So these videos lasted what? Six years a piece? A number of respected clergy and theologians in Chicago had a high opinion of Wright. But you are a little prickly about racism. How come?
Steve ® March 26, 2012 at 10:57 PM
Depends on what you are hunting. Look like good bait.
R Still Day March 26, 2012 at 10:59 PM
@ Bob McBride We have the dog vote AND their owners - better a dog owner than a dog abuser. By the way, Seamus ran away when they reached Canada. I now have a sticker that reads "I Ride Inside" DogsAgainstRomney.com Shows a Corgi like my own and I have it on the back of my truck. It the man can't even care for a dog, how the H*LL can he take care of the country. Answer...he can't. And won't, because Obama will be re-elected just by the preponderance of those the Conservatives are attacking..women, minorities, LGBT, unions, Seniors, Middle Class workers, the poor, children, any religion other than Faux Christian...and the list goes on....and on.

Cow, the dark side of Bain was loading some companies with debt they didn't previously have, etc. If we are looking for a president that can outwit China, India, etc., in the board room Romney would be the one. But we need a president who can deal with non-business issues, up to and including bringing all sides to the table and building consensus on important world issues. Of all of the Republican candidates, I would say Romney was the one most capable of doing this, but this is in relative terms.
Randy1949 March 26, 2012 at 11:12 PM
No I didn't. Asked for hard figures of his job 'creation' versus the jobs eliminated by Bain's machinations. Interesting thing about Staples and Toys R Us -- there are other companies that might have been competitors that went down the tubes under Bain's stewardship, including American Pad & Paper and KB Toys. So what is the net effect? Especially if you were one of the older workers let go and not rehired?

Keith, Still dealing with your unresolved racial guilt?
Ima Hippee March 26, 2012 at 11:33 PM
Mike, You need to pay attention. You read too many headlines or get your news from ABC/CBS/NBC.
Bob McBride March 26, 2012 at 11:52 PM
Well then how to do you explain Teddy Kennedy and Bill Clinton?, R Still? JFK's legacy? Not quite as different as you'd like to believe, is it? And, seriously, does a dog in a carrier on the top of the car 30 years ago even come close to those 3 examples? C'mon....
Bob McBride March 26, 2012 at 11:54 PM
You need to quit watching MSNBC and hanging out a Alterra. All that nonsense and caffeine are making your cranky.
Steve ® March 27, 2012 at 12:28 AM
We need a community organizer to bring world leaders together and beat America down in it's place. This is fun: Cow, the dark side of Obama was loading the entire country with debt it didn't previously have, etc.
Jason Patzfahl March 27, 2012 at 11:45 AM
I love how all of the biggest conservatives making comments on this blog are making comments about liberals being lazy and out of work - and making your comments during the work day, when you yourself should be at work. I call that "projection". Notice how I only comment before and after my work day (8-6).
Jason Patzfahl March 27, 2012 at 11:56 AM
The reason(s) I do not support Romney is not because of this old dog story, but because of his fiscal policies and his detached approach to reality and the middle class. He was raised by a millionaire father, lived in one of the richest suburbs in America, went to one of the most expensive and exclusive prep schools, had college paid for and received $1 MILLION in inheritance from daddy. Do you know what I inherited from my "daddy"? A ton of Debt and an '81 El Camino that didn't run. We grew up in an 80 year old bungalow in the city, went to public schools and took loans out to pay for college (still paying). Our vacations consisted of going fishing down in South Milwaukee or bar-hopping in Cudahy. And most of all - personally, if I were wealthy, I would take a pay cut to keep a hundred employees employed and their families in tact. Not Mitt - he doesn't give two rips. And the biggest difference between Ted Kennedy and Mitt - Ted is dead and Mitt is running for leader of the free world. It is easy to attack a dead man - the GOP does it all the time...Trayvon Martin case in Florida...JFK...MLK...
Jay Sykes March 27, 2012 at 12:08 PM
Debt is not 'inheritable' from a father to a son.
Bob McBride March 27, 2012 at 01:03 PM
Jay, please don't mess up Jason's hard-scrabble story where he compares himself to Mitt Romney.
Mr. Kell March 27, 2012 at 01:32 PM
Sounds like Jason's daddy didn't hug him enough.
CowDung March 27, 2012 at 01:32 PM
Who are these 'biggest conservatives' that you refer to? By my count, only Paul S has made a comment about liberals being lazy/out of work. Just how big is Paul S?
Mr. Kell March 27, 2012 at 01:33 PM
Most of us are self employed and doing quite well Mr. Patzfahl, so I guess we are stealing from ourselves when we respond to your sophomoric rantings of a stay at home dad whose genitalia has been confiscated by his public school teaching wife.
Steve ® March 27, 2012 at 01:46 PM
Jason, still waiting for a picture of the dog carrier used. It would be a great addition to your "article." Thanks
Steve ® March 27, 2012 at 01:48 PM
There is this thing called the internet It is installed at work It actually can make you a boat load of money if you know how to use it correctly. At work there is a computer that is hooked to the internet.
Tonto March 27, 2012 at 01:51 PM
Don't they eat dogs in Kenya?
Randy1949 March 27, 2012 at 02:24 PM
I have no idea. And neither does the President, because he never lived there.
Steve ® March 27, 2012 at 02:37 PM
According to my google machine they do. Don't youtube it if you want to have a good day. The president is not very smart if I know this and he does not.
Mr. Kell March 27, 2012 at 02:49 PM
The Luo tongue: "Obama biro! Yao neyo," or "Obama is coming! Clear the way!" George Obama, Kezia Obama, Malik Obama and of course Mama Sarah all live in metal huts, 15X10 with dirt floors. This is the liberal view of America, hell I bet even the liberal goofs in this room don't have dirt floors, well those of them who figured how to pay of their 50 year mortgages.
Bren March 27, 2012 at 04:03 PM
Steve, don't you believe it's possible to build consensus without losing face? And I do hope that you haven't forgotten which administration was on watch during the road to recession, or that bail-outs began during that administration. Let's keep it real! ; )
Ima Hippee March 27, 2012 at 11:15 PM
Jason, nice hard-scrabble story. So what. Everyone has a story. Did you hear the one about the Warren Buffett? You know, the one where he takes a deep pay cut and gives all his wealth to his employees and families. And god forbid, in your angst and unresolved racial guilt, why do you bring in Trayvon and MLK? BTW, MLK was a Republican.
$$andSense March 29, 2012 at 12:57 AM
Lot's of fun stuff here. Get Mitt in the Whitehouse and we can vacation with him in cages strapped on the wings and fuselage of Air Force One. Hoo-wee, what a ride! Call it the Seamus experience.
