Can We Impeach The First Black President?

Does race play a role in justice?

The other day, I heard a conservative talk show host make the point that the Republican members of congress would be unable to impeach the first black president because of the possible racists overtones.  I understand the point this host was attempting to make; however, I had not realized that the presidency was an affirmative action position or that his race holds him above the law.  I was under the impression that one's race could not be used to oppress another.  If as a conservative I must accept Obama’s actions regardless of their constitutionality simply because he is black, seems oppressive.

In an article written by George Will, he opens with an excerpt from the Articles of Impeachment for Richard Nixon.

“He has, acting personally and through his subordinates and agents, endeavored to . . .cause, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, income tax audits or other income tax investigations to be initiated or conducted in a discriminatory manner.”

Will goes on to point out the seriousness of the IRS scandal and the blame game/open rejection of facts already being used to dismiss the story.

Any logical evaluation of the evidence currently before us, shows that another arm of the Administration has been using its government granted powers against those who would be viewed as political enemies.  It has taken less than 5 days for American citizens to learn this was this not relegated to the Cincinnati office as we were first told, but that people at highest positions inside the IRS and possibly some Democrats in congress knew of these violations for extended periods of time.  One could make the claim that this was a ‘rogue’ agency; however, it would be another in a growing list of ‘rogue’ agencies acting outside the bounds of the constitution with no oversight by the President.

That leaves liberals in an interesting position.  Either defend Obama, which requires the acknowledgement that:  a) He is in over his head and was never prepared to be a leader, but also bringing into question the true validity of his policies; or, b)  He is guilty of unconstitutional actions and liberals care more about his party affiliation than whether he is acting within the bounds of the constitution.  Otherwise, they must stand against the man they have propped up as the savior of the progressive agenda.

So, can we impeach a black president?  The question itself is a false representation of facts.  We currently have a black man as a US President.  The role of president is one held as an American and by its nature stands beyond the idea of race.  Hence, his actions are either constitutional or unconstitutional regardless for his skin color.  Race is only an object of discrepancy to those unwilling to accept the constitutional judgement of his actions.  If race becomes a component to impeachment then our country has returned to a place where the color of one’s skin is his passport to opportunity.

In the end, we don’t impeach a black president, any more than we would have impeached a white president in 1974.  Rather, in both instances the impeachment discussion revolves around an unconstitutional president.  Let false claims of racism come, as name calling is the least of my concerns in defense of the constitution.
