In 1939, in an attempt to instill in Greendalers' pride in their home, as well as to protect the government’s investment, the regulations prohibited such things as driving nails into the walls, installing exterior radio aerials, and planting corn in the yard. Regulations also asked, “That parents instruct their children not to cut corners over the grass.”
