Join the Greendale Historical Society for a special, all-day tour of WPA era art in Greendale and surrounding areas in Milwaukee on Friday, May 31st. Artists and sculptors worked in the early days of the 1930s Great Depression to get the country on the move again. Their tools were brushes and chisels as they created works of art in area schools, post offices, and open spaces in Milwaukee County.

We will see statues, murals, textiles, and other art created at the same time Greendale was built. Learn about iconic WPA art including the works of Alonzo Hauser, murals at Shorewood and Wauwatosa high schools and the West Allis Post Office, Parklawn statuary and the Milwaukee County Historical Society.

Led by Mary Mainella, the tour starts in Greendale at the Middle School which boasts examples of WPA sculpture. Enjoy a complimentary breakfast to start the day. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended. Lunch on your own at the lakefront.  Call 414.423.7064 for reservations by May 20th.
