The Week Behind, The Week Ahead in Greendale

The UW Badger Band comes to town Saturday for a special concert at Greendale High School.

An invasive beetle, a new store in Southridge and a man charged with his fifth drunken driving offense topped the headlines in Greendale last week.

The aforementioned beetle is the emerald ash borer, which the state Department of Agriculture confirmed Tuesday had landed in Greendale. However, the village implemented an Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan back in 2010 and has chemically treated 500 ash trees each year since to protect against devastation by the insect. It has also removed about 100 ash trees each year, replacing them with other, disease-resistant trees.

The woman's clothing store LOFT opened in the upper level of Southridge Mall on Friday. Other new stores expected this year include Buca Di Beppo, Journey Kidz and Old Navy.

Also last week, Patch reported that a West Allis man arrested at Loomis and Grange for his fifth drunken driving offense had a 10-year-old child with him in the car.

So what's in store this week? At least one special visitor: the University of Wisconsin Band, which will perform a concert Saturday night in the Greendale High School gym.

The band, which includes seven Greendale Marching Band alumni, will perform many old favorites and halftime selections from its recent Rose Bowl season.
