Update: Second Annual Motorcycle Safety Classes at Southridge Mall Parking Lot

Classes will run April through October.

Motorcycles will be seen in  parking lots during weekends in the coming months.

On Tuesday, the Board of Trustees refered a temporary use permit requested by Jason Pettit and John Schaller of the House of Harley-Davidson  to the planning commission for outdoor motorcycle safety training classes in the northeast parking lot of Southridge Mall. This is the second year the classes will be held at Southridge Mall.

Classes will run from May through October on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The class will have 12 students and two instructors.

Last year residents expressed concerns over the noise levels but Village Manager Todd Michaels said there were no complaints once the classes started.

Approximately 100 motorcyclists are killed and more than 2,500 are injured each year in Wisconsin traffic accidents and most could have been prevented, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The submitted permit states, “Statiscally we know that 90% of the accidents involving motorcycles in Wisconsin involve riders who have not taken the MSF course. It is also very difficult to schedule a riding test throughout the Milwaukee area…By taking and passing this course, people have proven to be far better and safer riders both for themselves and for the communities within which they ride.”
