Protesters March Outside Stone's Campaign Office

About 50 showed up less than two hours after Assembly passed bill.

Protesters gathered outside the campaign offices of Jeff Stone late this afternoon, just 90 minutes after the state Assembly passed Gov. Scott Walker's controversial budget-repair bill.

Stone, the Republican state representative from Greendale who is running for Milwaukee County executive, voted in favor of the bill. His opponent, Chris Abele, is against it.

About 50 people showed up at Stone's campaign headquarters to voice their displeasure on the vote and show support for unions.

"It might not seem like such a victory," a union representative told the crowd. "But it is a victory, because we showed Scott Walker, Jeff Stone, and the rest of the nation what it's like to have an organized voice."

Stone "appreciates their concern about the future," said his campaign manager, Vi Hammelman.

"We are hoping that Jeff will be able to show and lead by example, and that even though they did not choose to put their unbridled trust in Jeff, that they will not be disappointed, but in fact, impressed," she said.

If elected county executive, "he intends to figure out a way to do right by them and by the taxpayer at the same time," she said.
