Wisconsin’s Economy Update

During the month of August Wisconsin added 7,300 private sector jobs, and unemployment dipped slightly from 6.8 percent in July to 6.7 percent.

The Department of Workforce Development’s numbers reveal a decline in weekly and continued weekly unemployment claims for the calendar year.  Wisconsin’s initial weekly unemployment claims are at a 13-year low.

Business remained optimistic through the month of August.  According to the Department of Financial Institutions new business formations are up 4.2 percent through August, compared to the first eight months of 2012.

As we approach the holiday season jobs numbers are expected to increase.  Kohl’s is planning hiring over 50,000 workers for the holiday season.
