DPI Awards grants to 19 New Charter Schools

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) announced Monday, August 5, 2013, Wisconsin received $12.8 million of federally funded charter school grants for the 2013-2014 school year.  The grant funds will be used to support opening 19 new charter schools.

During last school year Wisconsin had 238 operating charter schools, ranking us within the top 10 states nationwide for the number of charter schools.  Due to our states strong record of establishing charter schools, we are able to secure federal funding to supplement charter expansion.  Each year grants are awarded from a five year grant.

Charter schools offer innovative educational experience within communities.  Charter schools are one component for addressing the skills gap.  Offering rigorous and relevant curriculum, charter schools provide students the opportunity to gain skills to be competitive in a global economy.
