Proposal Would Bring Panda Express to Greendale

The Board of Trustees is set to discuss a proposed Panda Express at the former Leath Furniture site.

The Greendale Board of Trustees will be discussing a proposed Panda Express to be built at the old Leath Furniture building on 76th Street at Tuesday night's meeting.

As reported earlier by Patch, the Greendale Board of Trustees approved allowing Sears to split off the property that Leath Furniture previously occupied from the main Southridge Mall site. The village hoped that might make the propertymore attractive to buyers.

While the Panda Express proposal will be on the agenda, it is likely the board will refer the matter to the planning commission. Village Manager Todd Michaels said that Panda Express has given him the impression that they will start construction in the Summer.

JSOnline's Tom Daykin reported in January that a source told him that Longhorn Steakhouse, another restaurant, will be built alongside the Panda Express.

The empty Leath building, which has been vacant for several years, is located on the northwest corner of the mall property. Before Leath Furniture was in the building, Sears Home Life occupied it. Leath Furniture closed all its Milwaukee-area locations four years ago.

This is part of the redevelopment of the 76th Street corridor:

  • The ongoing $52 million renovation of Southridge Mall will continue through Summer.
  • The new Macy's will open its doors on March 14.
  • Boston Store is continuing its $8.5 renovation.
  • Wal-Mart has started its construction process.
