Historic Police and Fire Building to be Put Up For Sale

Just as it did back in 2006, the Village of Greendale will put the historic former police and fire station up for sale with the hopes of finding a buyer for the building that has sat vacant for 15 years.

Village President John Hermes said he expected the village trustees of voting in favor of trying to sell the building again at Tuesday’s Village Board meeting.

“It’s been up for sale one other time and we’ll put it up for sale one more time to give it a fair chance,” Hermes said. “It’s under the village manager’s (Todd Michaels) recommendation to have that step be taken again. It’s a historic building, so it’s only rightfully so that we have to give the building another shot (to be sold).”

That building of course sits at the center of the discussion of what to do long-term in downtown Greendale, specifically with the area just west of the village shops.

The village’s Community Development Authority met again Thursday to try to come up with a plan for the area, and the building.

“It was a continued discussion on how best we can take a forward look at the mission of the village center” Hermes said. “There are a lot of concepts being talked about. Now we … need a blueprint on how to build a plan.”

Tuesday's Village Board meeting is at 7 p.m.
