Rain Doesn't Dampen Spirits at Greendale Village Days

Annual event attracts people from all around Greendale.

Jerry Kleppin had finished roasting corn at the Greendale Village Days Saturday afternoon. The rain didn’t help, but Kleppin and his crew were holding out hope that things would pick up as they sat near the American Legion corn roaster.

Kleppin, who lives in Greenfield, was just one of the many volunteers helping roast corn, potatoes and chicken as a fundraiser for the Greendale American Legion Post #416.

While the annual weekend event is a chance for folks to get out and have fun while the summer winds down, it is also an event that helps many local organizations raise money for their various projects. It’s one of the reasons Derek Gilbert of Greendale, a local youth football coach, was willing to get soaked again and again in a dunk tank, so he could help raise money for the Greendale Panther Touchdown Club.

The event, which runs through Sunday in and around Greendale’s Gazebo Park, 5710 Broad St., includes live music, lots of food, games and more. Sunday’s main attraction is the Village Days Parade from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., which begins at the intersection of Grange and Northway.
