New Orchestra Ensemble Coming to Greendale Middle School

The co-curricular group will focus on alternative string orchestra music with an emphasis on visual performance

Greendale students will have a pair of new co-curricular activities to choose from next year.

Middle school students will have a chance to join the String Squad Music Mob, a 20-25 member student-driven co-curricular orchestra ensemble, according to the Greendale School District.

This ensemble will rehearse during the 2013-2014 school year and perform two to three times.

Rehearsals will take place outside of school hours and the performances will be either attached to regular middle school band or orchestra concerts or venues throughout the district.

The group, open to all seventh- and eighth-grade orchestra students, will focus on alternative string orchestra music with an emphasis on visual performance and theatrics including, but not limited to, choreography, lighting, costumes and special effects.

While the group is student driven with regard to musical direction, all scheduling, programming, and personnel decisions will be made at the director’s discretion.

In addition, Teens With Impact (formerly Peers With Impact) will be back in 2013-2014 after its debut last fall.

The mission of the group is to develop leadership skills among high school and middle school youth in promoting healthy lifestyle choices and preventing alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use among other youth.

During the 2012-13 school year, between 25-30 students participated.
