'The Spirit of 75' Art Contest Winners Announced!

In a ceremony at the Greendale Public Library on Saturday, the 75th Anniversary Art Contest winners were announced.

A winner for the 75th anniversary art contest has been chosen!

The Village of Greendale will celebrate its' 75th Anniversary in 2013. To promote this milestone the Village of Greendale, the Public Celebrations Committee, the 75th Anniversary Committee and the Greendale Public Library held an Art Contest. An artists reception was held on Saturday at the library to announce the winners of the contest.

As the excitement mounted the winners were finally announced.

  • Library Staff Favorite: 'Fantasy Gazebo' by Stephen Waite
  • Third Place: 'Broad Street Gazebo' by John Sowinski
  • Second Place: ' Watching Over' by Stephen Waite
  • First Place: ' Time and Place' by Jason Van Roo

The first place winner is now the official artwork of the the 75th Anniversary and the property of the Village of Greendale. Three hundred prints of 'Time and Place' will be made, signed and numbered by Jason Van Roo, and offered for sale. The proceeds of the sale will go to finance the 75th Anniversary celebrations in 2013.

The prints will be pre-sold for $25 starting June at the Greendale Public Library. However, prints number 1 thru 10 and number 75 will be auctioned off at a special event during Village Days.

The auction will be held on August 12 in Village Hall at 1 p.m. Be sure to join the fun on that day and bring your money!  

At the even this past weekend Dave Bauer of the 75th Committee thanked all the artitsts who participated, and commended them for their 'Greendale Spirit'. Then Library Director Gary Warren Niebuhr thanked the four judges who made the selections, the library staff for setting up the displays, and the many visitors to the Library who have already viewed all of the entries. All of the artworks in the contest will be on display at the library until August 11. They are all worth seeing.

Thanks to everyone involved for making this a fun, community wide event leading up to the big 75th Celebration party during Village Days 2013.
