Greendale's 75th Anniversary Committee Gears Up for 2013 with Car Show

A classic car show in downtown Greendale on Sunday kicked off the celebratory events leading up to the city's 75th anniversary in 2013.

While the City of Greendale doesn't turn 75 until 2013, the Greendale 75th Anniversary Committee kicked off the first of their promotional events with a classic car show on Saturday to start spreading the word about the upcoming 2013 year of celebration.

Dozens of classic cars, ranging from early model Mustangs and Thunderbirds to much more modern Corvettes and Camaros, and police and fire department vehicles filled the parking lot near the Gazebo downtown.

Adding to the classic look of the cars, the Easy Days Quartet roamed about the parking lot singing a cappella tunes and directing the crowd's attention to a short presentation from 75th Anniversary Committee members.

Greendale Historical Society member Bill Kewan read from the letter First Lady Michelle Obama sent to the City, designating it as a "Preserve America Community" for its historic preservation efforts, and Noelle Joers-Yanisch, 75th Anniversary Committee chairperson, announced the winner of their city-wide art contest to be Adhira Franco Miller.

Miller, a kindergartner from Highland View, will have her drawing of "What Greendale Means To Me" on display at the public library this month before it goes on display at the Greendale Historical Society.
