Background on the Greendale Tall Corn Contest

The contest is believed to have sprouted from a practical joke.

Last year, someone—rumors say it was publisher Roy Reiman—planted super hybrid corn seed in the flower bed at Jim Batley's Greendale barbershop. The mystery plant grew and grew, until it was 14 feet tall. People were astounded and even took pictures next to it.

And from that, the tall corn contest was born.

Note: Make sure to make your official submission to the Greendale Visitor's Center.
