Greendale Public Library Celebrates Dr. Seuss

The life and works of Dr. Seuss were celebrated at the Greendale Public Library on Saturday. Area TV news anchor Vince Vitrano read selected works during the event, which also included face painting, crafts and cookies.

The life and works of Theodor Seuss Geisel, more famously known as Dr. Seuss, were celebrated with readings of his books and other festivities at the Greendale Public Library on Saturday.

The event marked Seuss' birthday earlier in the week, and local resident and area TV news anchor Vince Vitrano kicked off the event by reading selected Dr. Seuss books to a packed room, garnering smiles and laughs from both children and adults in attendance.

"Dr. Seuss is one of my favorites from childhood and it's on the top of the list to read to my children," said Vitrano. "Plus, they're such great performance books to read and act along to, and the kids just eat it up."

After the readings, kids and parents were treated to cookies, crafts, and face painting, all of which were in a Dr. Seuss theme.

"We chose to celebrate Dr. Seuss because the kids love it and it's a timeless classic," said Youth Services librarian Jennie McNaughton, who organized the event. "The celebration is also a chance to bring the community together for something that spans across generations."

While many of the attendees were local, the charm of Dr. Seuss drew people in from Milwaukee and further, like Jason Lees, who traveled from Racine to bring his daughter to the celebration.

"We missed the Dr. Seuss event in Racine, so my daughter's been looking forward to this for weeks," said Lees. "Dr. Seuss is an all-time classic, and my daughter was really excited to be here, she even brought her Cat in the Hat doll."
