The Wisconsin Humane Society reports that there are nearly 100 dogs and puppies available for adoption at their Milwaukee and Ozaukee campuses, making this the largest number of dogs they've had at one time all year. With four additional transfers scheduled to arrive next week, the organization expects their number of available dogs to remain high in days to come.

Some of these lucky pups owe their good fortune to the PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin’ program, which works hard to bring dogs from small, overcrowded shelters to larger shelters like the Wisconsin Humane Society who can place them in new homes.

"October happens to be National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, so we’re hoping that families in our community will open their hearts and homes to the many wonderful dogs and puppies currently in our care," said Anne Reed, executive director at WHS.

WHS encourages potential adopters to visit their websites or stop by the Milwaukee or Saukville shelters if they’re interested in adopting an animal.
