Harmony Inn the Village Restaurant will close soon, making way for a new Bartlotta restaurant. The classic supper club is expected to open in the Harmony Inn location in late August. The restaurant will be remodeled, said Andrea Brinkman, marketing director for Wauwatosa-based Bartolotta Restaurant Group. The company will open a Mequon location with the same concept in September. Both locations will have the same name, Brinkman said, but the name has not been determined yet. The Greendale location will have approximately 200 seats with several private dining rooms. Both locations will offer dinner, Sunday brunch and outdoor patio dining. Corporate Chef Adam Siegel will lead the culinary team with each location’s executive chef to be named …
The men's upscale suit store will open in the summer.
Bachrach is opening in Southridge Mall this summer. The men's upscale suit store was once in Southridge before. Southridge Manager Mary Mokwa said the store will occupy its old location on the upper level of the mall. Bachrach has joined a number of stores that have opened since the begining of the mall's $52 million renovation. Last year the Village of Greendale approved a $16 million. H&M opened in Fall and Macy's opened in March. Both stores have reported sales higher than planned. Many stores have renovated in the mall, which include Rue 21, Kohls, Vanity, Wet Seal, Kay Jewelers and Buddy Squirrel. Southridge Manager Mary Mokwa said Journeys and Maurices will also be remodeled by Monday.
Vote in the poll for the shop hours you would like to see in Downtown Greendale. Would you like to see that shops open after 5 p.m.? Would you like to see more shops open on Sundays?
Some have commented that the shops in the Village Center close too early. Quite a few, not all, close at 5 p.m. A number of them also close on Sundays. People have said they would like to see shops open after 5 p.m. so that they can shop after work. Kim Finch wrote on Greendale Patch's Facebook, "I live in the Village and would like to frequent the shops more often but all of their hours just don't work for me. I work a regular Monday thru Friday 9-5, like most people, and it seems like the shops are never open." A number of shops are also closed on Sundays. Quite a few people have said in the past they would like to National Bakery open on Sunday to get bite after church. Todd Ahren wrote, "A bakery not open on Sundays with Churches all…

Southridge Mall Manager Mary Mokwa said Longhorn Steakhouse restaurant will be occupying the old Leath Furniture building on 76th street.
Longhorn Steakhouse is coming to Southridge Mall. Mall Manager Mary Mokwa said Thursday that the lease has been signed, and that the restaurant will occupy part of the old Leath Furniture building. Longhorn Steakhouse is a 30 year old chain of restaurants that serve steaks, chicken and fish in a "atmosphere reminiscent of a Western rancher's home." The steakhouse will be built next to a future Panda Express. The Greendale Village Board approved the Panda Express at a portion of the old Leath furniture building on April 17. The old Leath building is undergoing demolition. The building, located on the northwest corner of Southridge Mall, was vacant for several years. Before Leath Furniture was in the building, Sears Home Life occupied it. …
Some trustees are worried the proposed gateway arch will be bounced in between groups delaying its eventual construction.
Some trustees are worried construction of the proposed gateway arch will be bounced in between groups and delayed, after the Planning Commission sent designs back to staff last week. Commissioners, including some shop owners, weren’t fond of the proposed design and thought the rectangular shape seemed too industrial. Many preferred a rounded sign, however, that would likely cost more. A rectangular arch would cost $115,000, half of which will be paid by Grandhaven, LLC., landlords to the Village Center shops. The idea originated with discussion between village officials and downtown business owners last June. Many are hoping to have the sign done in time for Greendale’s 75th Anniversary celebrations in 2013. Village Manager Todd Michaels…

The Village Center shop owners were offended when Village President John Hermes said Village Center shops had low selection and high prices.
Article updated May 16 at 11:30 a.m. Greendale business owners, offended by comments Village President John Hermes made last week, publicly berated him at Tuesday’s Village Board meeting. During discussion at last week’s Planning Commission meeting, where commissioners discussed designs for the gateway arch, Hermes said: “There really isn’t much down here for the Greendale shopper anymore. They frequent (the Village Center) when they want to frequent it, those that know it’s here. The rest go elsewhere, where prices are better and they have more selection. That’s just a fact of life. We have to try to correct that in every manner we can.” But the owners of the Village Center shops see things differently, and they responded Tuesday night. …
