Right wing celebrity Gov. Scott Walker's star power appears to be on the wane in recent weeks, as evidenced by his warm-up act role on Governors' night at the Republican National Convention.
One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross commented, "Walker's fall looks a lot like the superstar arena rock band of yesteryear now consigned to the county fair circuit."
What accounts for the precipitous decline in fortunes of a governor who just a month ago was giving Mitt Romney advice on how to run his race on national television? According to Ross, Gov. Walker's record offers to the best explanation.
He cited Walker's:
Involvement in an ongoing political scandal and secret John Doe criminal investigation. The criminal probe has resulted in felony charges against top aides and close associates from his time as Milwaukee County Executive, and now seems to have expanded to include his top gubernatorial staff. Walker is the first governor in Wisconsin history to have created a legal defense fund and has retained a team of high profile criminal defense attorneys from Milwaukee and Chicago.
Abysmal record on job creation. The Bureau of Labor Statistic has reported consistent job loss under the Walker administration, bucking the national trend of modest overall job gains. Even using the most optimistic job number calculations produced by the Walker administration itself, his policies of tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations and cuts to education and health care have left Wisconsin among the very worst states for job creation.
Trail of bitter partisan division. Despite surviving a recall election, largely on the strength of overwhelmingly financial advantage, Walker has left the state bitterly divided. As the Republican presidential nominee seeks to moderate his image and appeal to swing voters, Gov. Walker's divide and conquer politics strike a sour note.
"Gov. Scott Walker's scandal plagued administration has divided Wisconsin as never before and his slavish devotion to tax breaks for the wealthy and service to corporate special interests has resulted in one of the worst records of job creation in the nation," said Ross.
He concluded, "Republican's want to put their best foot forward at their convention in prime time. Scott Walker is most certainly not it."

I'm guessing (haven't seen the speakers' list) that Walker was never on the prime time agenda. There are so many people jockeying for position and Walker is new on the scene. It will be interesting to see how things shake out. Since there was robo-calling that involved Jeb Bush some months back, don't be surprised to see him. Chris Christie (NJ) is being groomed for 2016/2020 by the Tea/GOP, so expect to see him on the podium as well. I'd like to see Jon Huntsman up there too but won't hold my breath.

Ross' article is BS to begin with. Walker was always scheduled to speak. Asking and answering his own questions like this is some kind of news story? "What accounts for the precipitous decline in fortunes of a governor who just a month ago was giving Mitt Romney advice on how to run his race on national television?"
Precipidous decline? Riiiiight! Walker was asked to trim his speach from 8 minutes to 6 minutes to help deal with the logjam from cancelling Monday due to the hurricane. Good guy that he is, he is disciplined enough to help out and not hog the spotlight. His light has never shined brighter.

anti Al, The Democrats in Wisconsin display a strong sense of entitlement to taxpayer money for themelves. Look at the recalls, the campaigs against Judge Prosser when they lost by elections. The public services the high salaries are there by entitlement. they assume. Walker stood his ground on tax hikes and borrowing.
The state is more friendly to market solutions or private sector jobs now, but has a long way to go.
High taxes are tyranny and Wisconsin has some of the highest in the nation. I look forward to lower taxes.

I haven't seen any yet Brian, but I have no doubt there are and will be attack ads. But there are two big difference.
1) They will be intermingled with ads portraying the Romney success story.
2) they will be based on facts:
over 8% unemployment (closer to 15% when count people that have left)
$6 TRILLION in new debt
27% increase in spending under Barack Hussein Obama's watch
First downgrade in US credit rating in history
Thousands of homes still underwater
There's alot more. But notice they all attack Barack Hussein Obama's policies and their results.

I am surprised the Democrats nominated John Kerry as he is married to Teresa a billionaire. He had a big carbon foot print with SUVs and yatches.. Not one word of how out of touch kerry and wife two were. In fact Barack Obama gave a speech at the nominating convention in praise of Kerry2004. John Edwards was also very rich yet said he was man of the people. Media and DNC accepted their self IDs as fact.

Gv Walker was warmly received at the RNC convention. he was loudly wellcomed when he gave the nominating numbers on the floor and when he gave his prime time speech on reform and fiscal accountabilty. Voters decided not to return to high deficits and tax hikes June 5 by larger numbers than they did Nov 2010.
Democrats need accept election relurns and stop trying to overturn them with baseless recalls. Wis Recalls are a spoiled brat terror tactic.

If anyone knows about my comments on Patch, I am a very very liberal Atheist. Saying that, as much as I would love to believe the comments on this blog, the reality is oposite of that. Scott Walker is not on the wane. He is one of the hottest rising stars in the GOP. He will be on the big ticket some day. It is not a matter of if. It's a matter of when. If for no other reason, did any one notice the ovation he received at the RNC? All the speeches are jumbled around due the the hurricane again hitting the gulf coast. Gov. Walker is relegated to nothing. If he isn't on the ticket in 2016 (and he may not need to be as Romney could very well win this Nov.), he absolutely will be a key note speaker on a major big time night next RNC.
My only question is if the country could handle a two Wisconsin ticket?
