Obama 2nd term! Be careful what you wish for ...

President Obama just reclaimed a narrow victory over Mitt Romney to get his second term. Just 2 million votes separated the candidates in the entire nation. But in Obama 1st term in a bad economy he wasted too much, focus too little on the economy & jobs and that decision will cost him and the country dearly in his second term.

Businesses have now read the tea leaves and decided overwhelmingly that the United States is now a bad investment. Conservative Michelle Milkin warned in a recent column prior to the election that the LAYOFF BOMB would explode if Obama got a second term. Business has been put in a position where Growth was a bad idea. This over bearing administration taxed, regulated and demonized business. The Layoff Bomb has went off.

Heres a list of companies who have just announced significant lay offs in the past 48 hours:

Westinghouse,

Research in Motion,

Boeing, US Cellular,

Commerzbank,

Iberia,

ING,

Ericsson,

Bristol-Myers,

corning,

Boston Scientific,

Abbott Labs,

St. Jude,

Caterpillar,

CVPH Medical Center,

Lightyear

Hawker Beechcraft

Energizer

The list will grow because of Obama's anti business Politics do not help expand the economy and revenues. So incomes cant grow and jobs shrink. GDP  is clearly sputtering and we are heading backwards not Forwards. I voted for Mitt Romney because the only way to save america is to reign in spending and GROW GDP so that revenues inheritly expand. There is no better program in this country than a Job , but that appears to be the only Program this administration wants to eliminate.

Be careful what you wish for folks......You might have just cut this nations throat. It will be a long 4 years because when business in mass start withdrawing from the economy . The ship can only sink . We cant tax and spend are way out of this one . We are already to far behind the 8 ball and are credit rating will be lowered again . I truly hope President Obama will Pivot to embrace Capitalism , but I just dont think he gets it . I know his supporters dont get it . Thats bad news for us all.

God bless the United States of America ....we're going to need that more than ever!

I work in commercial property management - I have talked with many of my tenants. While they may not immediately lay off employees in numbers, they have told me that no one will get more than 30 hours a week. Congrats all.

Randy1949 that reason is simple . Business has to meet a payroll, bay the bills , comply with over bearing regulations and taxes. If they can expand and be profitable they do . Unfortunately, when they cant WE are currently seeing the results. The economy has slowed in the aftermath of Obama's spending spree. It didnt work because it doesnt change the fundamentals . We are merely adding more takers than makers to government entitlements and that is a death spiral . Because the Makers are retreating because its not profitable to grow in this environment . Its common sense if you ever ran anything in the real world .Private business is what creates wealth . It is not a welfare program . It has to pay its expenses , taxes , and overheard. But unlike the Federal Government it cant succeed in the RED. Failure is only an option for government .It doesn't work like that in the REAL world .

@skinnyDude -- I'm not sure whether you were answering the imposter or me. Businesses have expenses, but to make any money they need a customer base. The more your customer base is impoverished through increased cost of living, lower wages, medical bankruptcies, etc. the less you're going to sell. Period.

Moving full-time workers over to part-time status to avoid paying benefits is an older tactic than just recently. It may improve the bottom line, but it does no good for the economy.

True Randy, but businesses, like people, have to look out for themselves. Cutting expenses, no matter how undesirable, makes the different between success and bankruptcy. My boss isn't interested in helping businesses in California survive. He is interested in making his business survive. And it is my job to help make his business successful so that I can continue to get a paycheck.

The list you provided is much bigger and will continue to grow. With the new year approaching, many employers are making health insurance changes known to the employees- and MANY are filling their pants when they see their new premium contributions. I have heard from two different people this week who have told me they will not be able to pay for the insurance and make the mortgage. I also have heard from two executives that tell me they are sad but they will be letting good people go in the coming months.
After four more years of this, it may be too late to save US.

My company's health insurance renewal came in with a 24% increase for 2013 and there is a 28% increase expected for 2014. A family of 4, on our plan, will cost $3170 more for 2013 and $7760 more than 2012, for 2014. I paid 100% of the premium, until now, and the employees were upset last year because I had to increase the deductible, they are in for a shocker this year.

Heather A made a great point yesterday.

We need to start seeking out bipartisanship on issues that both side ideologically agree with - like cutting waste, fraud, and abuse out of the system. Sen Tom Coburn's (R) annual report would be a great place to start.

Unfortunately, we presently don't have the luxury of time, with the fiscal taxmageddon just a few short months away.

How Obama decides to handle the coming months and years will forever define his Presidency.

Will he actually lead and unite for a change, or will he point the finger and blame?

All any of us has right now is hope!

The Democrats wrote the FLAWED law to our benefit so Wisconsin still has the option of opting out of this . We already have Badger Care.....No need to cripple business. In fact, Business would find Wisconsin a lot more attractive if we Just say NO to ObamaCare and dont set up the exchanges. .

It is more like a Corn Crop.....U got to produce the conditions for it to grow into a bunker crop and than and only than can everyone eat better. You think going bankrupt is Patriotic ? Very simple ....It is a world economy. If you dont make Reward outweigh the RISK . Why would business do it . Obama has demonized business and they dont trust him on the economy , taxes or regulation. That has forced theyre hand and anyone paying attention KNEW this would occur .It was not a secret . Its now put them in survival mode instead of growth mode. Thats bad for everyone. Business is not a welfare program ...it is a bet. It is pretty clear you are likely a worker and not the person signing the checks . Its not a government program ....Its a system of winners and losers . A lot of them go under and some struggle and some thrive. We need as many as possible to THRIVE but Obama has made that a losing proposition . Dont kill the messenger. This is what is going to occur.

@Randy . Lets start with the ELEPHANT in the room . ObamaCare is a Tax that is forcing small businesses to make suvival choices . One is to cut hours and two is to cut people .They will opt for what gives them the best hope to survive in a dead economy. Pay the fine aka as TAX PENALTY.
Reality is business doesnt want to lose good people and provide benefits if they can reach a level of success to afford them . But if they cant avoid all the taxes and penalties they have to make a FINANCIAL decision . It isnt a about punishing the people in the business ...its about tying to stay a float in a shit economy .
2nd Obama says it clearly. Increase taxes on top of the obama care penalt to anyone individual at 200k a year or couple at 250k a year, A lot of people run businesses our in that very BOAT. The money that could help them grow the economy now goes to the government? Are u really this uninformed. I seriously doubt you ever ran even a lemonade stand. In a down Economy Obama has doubled down on punishing the only people who can save the economy. It will not work cause it lacks the incentive to grow and moves business into survival mode. You really lack common sense in this area. I mean seriously. Get a clue!

Comment_arrow

Randy1949

The elephant in the room is the skyrocketing cost of healthcare overall and a system that is falling apart of its own weight and inefficiency.

If providing health insurance is such a burden on business, perhaps we should do away with it entirely. I'm willing to go on as I am, if you're willing to give up your health coverage. Think of the money you'd be saving your boss and the consumer!

SkinnyDude

Its always amazing to me that people not never ran a business thinks its like picking Money off a tree. Its work, its planning , its loans its risk of losing your own ass. Good People who work for business are a great asset , but they are also a cost. If the guy that puts the whole thing together can succeed , However, No one he hires can either. This is just basic common sense. It is something Liberals seem clueless too.
Do you think people on food stamps are hiring now ? Why arent they just opening a business and printing money? The answer is .....its alot of work , planning , regulation and Risk . You raise the risk too high and lower the reward on success and you only will get Survival mode. Once again what is happening is not a secret . I am sure some Obama supporters got theyre pink slip and are wondering if Romney won ......would it of saved their job. Certainly, the Business community would of had more optimism than we got today.

Minimum wage need o be eliminated for anyone without a High school diploma. Minimum wage has killed a lot of minority youth employment. Sadly , If people drop out of High school they pretty much drop out of the work force. Almost no one will hire someone without a high school diploma . So who does that effect the most ? Minorities in the city. Hence, without any chance of employment to acquire the skills needed to become a successful member of society we see far to many trapped in the criminal justice system. Without the minimum wage we would provide jobs, structure, skills and a stronger future for the people in this situation. The minimum wage for people without any skills disqualifies them from the american dream. Why not give them the right to work for what they agree too and than attain the skills for a better future a reality. Liberal thinking kills futures.

ObamaCare was poorly thought out legislation as this was going to happen The Obama administration had written tons of temporary waivers. Because Companies flat out told the administration the response would not be favorable for employment. Democrats in there haste forget to look at the consequences of there action . It kills jobs , benefits and expands entitlements in a irresponsible way. resources are limited but it seems that the expensive entitlements are unlimited. This story doesnt end well for anyone .

Personally I saw no related experience (not even in the converse) that a vulture capitalist could bring to the economic table to lower debt and increase jobs at home. Swinging the pendulum of doom is not needed here, but a measured approach to solving our problems and enhancing what works well in our country (and so much does).

I also congratulate skinnyDUDE for the thoughtfully written article. Each company shared has its own story to tell. In addition to Americans losing spendable income due to the recession, there are also issues of lost market share, research failures, product irrelevancies, etc., it's a long list, that are contributing to the dire situation.

Mechanization vs. quality of life has been at issue/odds since the Industrial Revolution. Companies are geared toward cutting costs and driving up profits, but we've reached a point where the profits are impacted because of the cost cutting (wages, good-paying jobs). The executives of these industries are going to have to figure this out, if it's not too late already.

Here's a blog site that I visit to keep track of layoffs. It provides links to the source articles which is very helpful: http://www.dailyjobcuts.com/

I suspect that will continue as he likely will continue his extreme left wing agenda which will only further kill the economy, jobs and revenues. I truly hope I am wrong, but I am bearish on the economy. It dont take a rocket scientist to figure out Business is retreating from this economy. Survival Mode is not growth. Its a very bad sign. We need the economy to grow about 3% a year no matter who is President if we expect to turn this around. I am not holding my breathe . GDP is declining from last year to this year. So a smaller economy with less jobs and lowered revenues is the reality. I hope It turns around but that would take a HUGE pivot from the President to address the reality over his death spiral agenda.

Than why would Obama lie to the american people and say he reduced them .? . You need a system that works. Business signaled long ago the adverse effects of ObamaCare. The Obama administration gave out tons of waivers because of it. This was not a surprise. This was the known reality to a President the demonized business, is anti energy, and is over bearing on regulation . The result is a sputtering economy going backwards after he blew a Trillion dollars on Nonsense and political paybacks. Business merely is pulling back because they have been forced into survival mode instead of growth mode. A lot of them waited because Romney was pro Capitalism and growth and energy. Now that road is closed ......so will a lot of business be closed. Seriously,if you are surprised you have had your head in the sand.

It was either Bob M. or Jay S. that rightly mentioned that the average person has yet to understand what the affect of ObamaCare will be. Only the largest businesses understood a year ago, and the smaller ones understood only recently, if at all. As planned by the Administration, it was $5,000 more than anyone understood. The cost will grow and grow as business take the only way out in order to be competitive.
