With the weather being how it has been, I am so very, very thankful for air conditioning. I am not a hot weather kind of gal, so sitting in a cool environment and delving into books is perfect for me! And right now I'm deeply involved in the writings of Maggie Stiefvater.

The first book I read by her was Shiver. I had picked it up at a Scholastic book fair a few months back and cracked it open while on my recent staycation. "Shiver" is a story about Grace and Sam - two unlikely lovers. Unlikely because Sam is, well, Sam's a wolf. Their first meeting came when Grace was a child and she had been snatched off her tire swing by wolves. Frozen with cold and fear, Grace didn't fight back, but rather she looked into the eyes of wolf-Sam, who pulled her away from the others, shifted to human form and delivered her back to her home. The pair are connected thereafter.

After a teenager is attacked by the wolves, hunters take to the woods to kill the animals and Sam is wounded. Now back as a human, he waits for Grace, bleeding on her back deck. Their attraction is still there - strong and instantaneous. But how can they be together when one of them is human and the other is lupine? Together they set out to find a way to keep Sam human and keep themselves together.

In Linger, Sam and Grace's story continues. Spoiler Alert: Sam is now human for good, but Grace's parents - who have been wholely absent in her life for the majority of her teen years - now step in challenge their relationship. And there's more going on with Grace; she's sick . . . in a way that no one saw coming. (Okay, well, I saw it coming, but I'm intuitive like that!)

So, my strategically selected Teaser quote for this week comes from the beginning of "Linger:"

"This is the story of a boy who used to be a wolf and a girl who was just becoming one.  ...  I never knew there were so many different ways to say good-bye."

Because I have a strong suspicion that this book is going to break my heart and/or make me cry, I made a point of visiting my local Barnes & Noble last night to pick up the final book in the trilogy, Forever. I get so wrapped up in the stories and books that I need to have a resolution - preferably a satisfying one - or I'll drive myself crazy by planting my mind firmly in the characters' world and relieving the story over and over again. (Yes, I know. A wee bit crazy.)
