How so Bob? Ryan is the only guy that Obama fears because he know when Ryan is in the romm, he is not the smartest guy. In 2010, they said running on Ryan's agenda would kill our party, yet there was a Red Tsunami led by the TEA Party who ehose candidates all endorsed Ryan's plan. Romney endorses the plan as fundamental to economic reform. Why not put the architect on the ticket?

Because when it comes to the general, you're going after independents and those in the middle. Nobody on the hard right, or anywhere on the right for that matter, is going to choose Obama over Romney. Keith's right. All this becomes is an opportunity for the Dems to scare the bejesus out of those in the middle who might otherwise vote for Romney. 2010 was about Democrats still being high off the fumes of 2008 and assuming the GOP was DOA. If you think it was about some overwhelming endorsement of the Tea Party agenda, you'll be standing around with your jaw on the floor when the dust settles, just as the Dems were in '10 - thanks to this decision.

And if you're a supporter of the Ryan plan, the guy who's behind it has now effectively been castrated when it comes to boldly defending it because he has to watch everything he says so as not to screw up Romney's chances.

This has a better chance of being '08 than '10 because we've elected to go with the same strategy that, so far, is a 100% loser - controversial, rock-star VP - because we think we have to tweak the ticket in order to make up for a moderate head of the ticket, when the majority of the swing votes prefer a moderate.

Hoffa agrees with McBride - although Hoffa personally approves of the pick, it wasn't necessarily good electoral politics.

Hoffa also wouldn't call Ryan a true Tea Party candidate - the true Tea Partiers feel that Ryan's plan balances way to slowly, preferring the Rand Paul / Mike Lee / Jim DeMint budget, which balances in 5 years, or the Gary Johnson budget, which balances in 2 years or less, to Ryan's proposed budget.

However, the left's denial of economic reality has been effective at convincing many independents and moderates that Ryan is a hard Tea Party guy.

Romney and Ryan's biggest hurdle will be in exposing how both parties have effectively pushed the center towards the left over the last 35 years, which is the only reason that Ryan may appear to be extreme today to the low information, non-thinking voter.

We need to push the center back towards a true center before it's too late and the rest of the world adopts a second reserve currency, which could lead to the economic ruin of our nation.

Lyle, Paul Ryan can still run for his House seat. Biden ran for his Senate seat in 2008. And this is an excellent sign for our party. You guys have nothing and we have the Road Map for America. You have a President that has has not passed a budget in his entire term and couldn't even get 1 vote from his own side, let alone Republicans, and Ryan passed budgets under his leadership in each of the two years he has been in charge of the budget.

The number one issue is the economy and debt, and we have the best team assembled to fix them. Also, Obama is peeing in his pants because he has no brain power to match Ryan, let alone Romney.

I remember when the dems were all giddy about Reagan becoming the nominee and they got clocked in 1980.

As for fighting the deficit? How? One conservative estimates it will take 23 years to fix the budget under Ryan's budget.

Most people have been casual about looking at the Ryan's Republican retread program. Once the light of a national campaign is on this water carrying for the 1%, they will flee in terror.

@Brian Dey...I am commenting on the fact that I think Romney is responding to his recent weakness in the polls. I believe that Ryan was a bigger asset to your party as the House Budget Committee Chairman. It would appear that Romney's team is looking for a bump in the polls with this announcement. Ryan will definitely solidify the Republican base but I don't think he will excite the uncommitted middle.

Lyle- The selection was made on August 3rd when Romney was even in the polls and in some, leading. I think this decision was based on his popularity amongst the beltway Republicans and the Tea Party, unifying a base that swept the country in 2010.

It is a decision a the failure of the Dems in recent events including the Walker recall. I blieve people are fed up with the mame and blame politics of the Democratic Party. They want politicians that have solutions to the tough problems, not politicians that are blaming each other and slandering each other.

As far as the budget, yes, the budget originates in the House of Representatives, initiated by the House Budget leader, which Paul Ryan did both years, and passed on a bi-partisan vote. The Senate refused to vote on the last one. The President put forth budgets because he couldn't get one from the Dem controlled Senate. The budgets that the Prez put forth received zero votes from either the Republicans or Democrats. Once he interjected himself because of his lack of leadership with his own caucus, it is fair to say that he felt he had more of a role than is required; and he failed... Basics, just basics.

When I get an apology for all the smears that KS and others have put out there against me and other Republicans, there will be no apology forthcoming.

Well, you were constantly perpetuating how Walker was going to lose the recall election or get indicted before the recall election - remember? On June 5th, Walker won with an even larger majority than in the general election. And last I checked, there's been no indictment or even much going on with the John Doe since.
