More than 45 percent of Americans make a resolution every year, according to statisticbrain.com. Some people vow to live a healthier lifestyle, others promise to spend more time with family, and many say they will try to save money.
As millions of Americans make resolutions to improve their lives, what could we do right here in Greendale to make it an even better place to live?
Would you like to see more businesses in the village? Would you like to see something disappear? Would you like to see roads improved and added bike lanes? Perhaps a statue of Eleanor Roosevelt?

I would like Greendale drivers be more considerate to walkers and bikers. They are terrible around here. I would also like people to be more considerate of others with regard to keeping their sidewalks safe (snow and ice) and picking up after their dogs! This specifically directed to those in the 'G' section. While I am at it how about those big red octagon signs! They mean stop not slow down and a reminder, pedestrians have the right of way. I'm sorry if you can't wait the 10 seconds it takes for me to get out of your way while I am in the crosswalk. Have a nice day

Cookie make's valid points while they may seem small , they are law. Some folks in Greendale need to lose their "holier than thou" attidude.

Nothing says "new year's resolution" like plagiarism and sour grapes. Just because Judge Kapocius did not get the job of Superintendent does not mean that he should hurl ambiguous insults about the current make up of the school board.

My resolution for Greendale: For our leaders and South 76th corridor partners to aspire to be more like Bayshore Town Center, Mayfair or Brookfield Square, and not South 27th. Classy, appropriately upscale, diverse and welcoming. There are discriminating shoppers here on the South Side with money - give them stores, restaurants and entertainment so they keep these dollars in Greendale.

I had my own, but after reading Cookie and Skamp's, well, I'm going with theirs! Especially Cookie's! Earlier this year I stood at the corner of 51st and Ramsey trying to cross with my daughter on her bike while no less than 7 cars came to rolling "stops" and just blew right through.

Hire a professional branding/design firm to come up with a growth plan for Greendale that preserves historical structures and feel and has a coordinated, attractive appearance. Work on restoring historic commercial structures that have experienced facade degradation, start a fund to help Original homeowners restore their facades.
Also on the wish list, in agreement with SouthShore Skamp, attract some great shops/boutiques to Broad Street. A small, retro-type grocer like Groppi's in Bay View, which offers some nice wines and a great deli counter (which wouldn't compete with National Bakery) would be very good. There have also been many excellent suggestions made by others to make Broad Street more appealing to local shoppers.

I grew up in Bay View just blocks from Groppi's ~ Great little store. They have a well-preserved landmark, we have Walmart and an LCD sign. Thanks to the Greendale Historical Society we are restoring the old Hose Tower, which could be cool.

I hope for a kick-butt 75 year celebration, for the weather to cool down just enough to use the ice skating rink downtown and to see a statue of Eleanor Roosevelt either in Eleanor's Square (fountain area next to Ricardo's) or in the outdoor courtyard of the Historic Hose Tower (plans are still being considered).
There is only one sculpture/statue of a President and his wife together in the entire US - so maybe a sculpture of both Roosevelts together in the style of Alonzo Hauser (flagpole sculptures) would be a good draw for Greendale, downtown and the local businesses. Of course, this should NOT be at the expense of the tax payers.
Anyone got $10,000 they can kick in? Chamber of Commerce? Reiman? Everyone in Overlook Farms?
I've got a ten spot to get things started...
