Suspect was driving through the area Saturday with a half empty can of Mickey's hidden under his seat. If convicted, he faces up to 6 ½ years in prison and $12,500 in fines.
A 56-year-old West Allis man is facing felony drunk driving charges after he was caught driving through Greendale with a half full can of Mickey’s hidden under his seat.
Robert J. Zylka was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Monday with one count of fifth offense operating while intoxicated, one count of operating a motor vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration and one count of operating a motor vehicle after revocation of his license. If convicted, he faces up to 6 ½ years in prison and $12,500 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
On Saturday, Zylka was pulled over near Ramsey Avenue and Teakwood Drive after a Greendale police officer on patrol noticed the registration on his car was suspended. When he approached the car, the officer detected a light smell of alcohol inside.
Zylka told the officer he had drank eight or nine beers the previous day, however, the officer found the cold, half full can of beer under the driver’s seat. He failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of 0.06 before being taken to an area hospital for a blood test.
Zylka was previously convicted of OWI in 1991, 1992, 1997 and 1998. He’s currently being held in Milwaukee County Jail while awaiting trial.
