Suncoast Closed at Southridge Mall

The space where the movie retailer was located is now vacant.

Suncoast Motion Picture Company closed its doors at Southridge Mall.

Suncoast is a chain of retail stores specializing in movies and television series. The store which was located on the second level is now vacant.

Southridge Mall manager Mary Mokwa said that they are searching for tenants and will announce new tenants when leases have been signed as the $52 million renovation continues.

The employees were adamant about the reason for closing during their final weeks. The store was closed due to an unacceptable increase in rent which was attributed to Macy's arrival. The parent company was not closing a bunch of stores, just this one. Not sure of the accuracy of their information. Made for a rather unpleasant shopping experience around such a disgruntled staff.

I would be disgruntled too if I lost my job due to another huge department store moving in considering there's the SAME huge department store less than 10 minutes away. We drove from the Mayfair area JUST to go to Suncoast (had an itch for Weekend at Bernies and knew we'd find it there for a steal of a price!) only to find our favorite video store was closed due to more American BS.

@Vega What are you talking about? There's not another Macy's within 10 minutes of Southridge. Maybe 20 minutes. And have you seen that mall lately? It was falling into flea market territory. A new department store to bring in new customers and shops is not a bad thing. If the mall had to lose a small movie shop with extreme prices on most of their merchandise... Well that's just the way it is. But it off Amazon if you're that butthurt over Weekend At Bernies... which you could do way better for a retro movie, anyway.
