Ceremony for Southridge Mall's $52 million renovation.

I'm not sure if the Southridge area has ever experienced as much excitement as it did this year. Patch has been there from project proposalsto ribbon cutting ceremonies.

Walmart

Greendale's Walmart process started in 2010 when rumors surfaced that they had their eyes in the old U.S. Bowling Congress building. After several open houses, planning commission meetings and board meetings, Walmart was approved by the Village of Greendale in summer 2011.

Walmart construction started and ended in 2012. The 90,000 square feet store will have a smaller Supercenter format and is due to open in late January.

Southridge Mall Renovations

Not only did the mall go through a $52 million renovation with the help of a $16 million TIF District, but other stores within the mall jumped on the remodeling bandwagon.

Boston Store celebrated the completion of its $8.5 million renovation back in August. The Village of Greendale created the third TIF district of $3 million to help fund the renovation.

Other stores that have renovated inside the mall include KohlsBuddy SquirrelRue 21Maurice'sWet Seal VanityKay Jeweler's and Buckle.

New Southridge Stores, Including Macy's

Excitement brewed in and of Greendale when news broke that Macy's was opening a store in Southridge Mall. After months of anticipation the store finally celebrated its opening in March.

Other store openings in the mall include H&M, Bachrach, Body Central, Crazy 8, Justice for Girls, Teavana and Tilly's.

Store openings to look out for include the re-opening of Old NavyLOFTChico's and Journey Kidz.

New 76th Street Businesses

New businesses coming to 76th Street Corridor include several restaurants and a show store.

Panda Express opened its doors this month. Construction on a future Longhorn Steakhouse, next to Panda Express, has started and is due to be completed Spring 2013.

Several people celebrated the opening of Berkshire Greendale, a senior-living apartment complex, in May. This is the Village's fist TIF district.

Chick-Fil-A has been approved by the Village of Greendale and will open in an outlot in front of Walmart in summer 2013.

Southridge Mall recently announced that Buca di Beppo will be joining its tenant mix near Macy's.

Lastly, Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) will open at the old Borders location. Date of completion is not known yet.

I noticed cars driving in the Wal Mart lot and then driving out. Why is the sigh lit up if it isn't open yet?

Most likely it's several employees setting up for the opening. Several people have been confused and driven up to the store thinking it's open but it's not.
