Sequestration, A Child's First Words Among Top Blog Posts

From overcoming a major speech impediment to the changes in a 100-year-old state law, Patch bloggers weighed in on a variety of topics this week. Here is a look at some of the most popular posts over the past week.

Blog posts in Wisconsin Patches this past week ran the gamut — from determining a "fair share" in our tax system to overcoming a speech impediment and hearing a child's first words.

Every day, Patch's Local Voices bloggers share information, insight and opinion about what matters to them. Here's a selection of blogs from throughout the past week.

Mount Pleasant Patch blogger, Bottom Line, asked readers, "What Is a Fair Share?" in a post this week that garnered more than 150 comments. He took a look at President Obama's request that the wealthy pay their fair share, but what is that fair share? Patch readers shared their ideas, ranging from a flat tax system to limiting the inheritance tax.

While this isn't the newest post on Patch, this week it pulled into the top five most read blogs and has garnered more than 85 Facebook "Likes." A Bayside mom talks about about her son, Henry, and how his speech impediment was painful for her, watching him unable to say words until nearly 3 years old. And then, one day he said, "That's a big fiewtwuck!" Julie explains she started to cry right there in the minivan because she was so happy and amazed by the sound of his voice making words.

In, "Bill Introduced to Benefit Drunk Drivers at the Expense of Workers," an Oak Creek blogger takes a look at a newly introduced bill that he said looks to overturn the collateral source rule, which requires those who injure another to pay the full cost of the injured person's medical bills. With 70 comments, Patch readers had a lot to say about who should really be held liable in a car accident — the person who caused the injury or the injured person who had the foresight to buy health insurance?

The sequestration has been a hot topic in national and local media outlets and it isn't any less popular with Patch bloggers and readers. In, "USA Chooses Ice Cube or Ice Berg - The Cruel Joke of the Sequestration," Patch blogger, SkinnyDude, explains how he thinks the sequestration won't mean changes because spending will continue. But not all commenters agreed.

Obama February 23, 2009:
► “Today I’m pledging to cut the deficit we inherited in half by the end of my first term in office. This will not be easy. It will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges we’ve long neglected. But I refuse to leave our children with a debt that they cannot repay — and that means taking responsibility right now, in this administration, for getting our spending under control.”◄

Yet he did the opposite.

No John Wilson, what Obama is offering is class-less, unless of course we are talking about class envy, which Obama uses as his tool of choice.

@Tom
You do realize that the majority of the programs you mentioned were started under the Reagan Adminatration? Right? It gets kind of tiresome hearing our current president get blamed for the problems and programs left behind by previous administrations.

Giving an elderly person landline access so they can call 911 in an emergency is a far cry than giving every hood rat a free, or multiple free cellular phone(s) with text messages. Like every government program that starts off small and cheap the liberals take hold and expand it beyond solvency.

So let's go back to the way Regan structured it. Right?

Have you apologized for making false claims against Walker?

Keep spewing your propaganda. Barrett still gets a $100 million trolley but Obama will make the sequester hurts for votes. This is what dictators do.

Also, delays at airports, no way that like never happened before. Never. OMG....

If this is true, Janet Napolitano needs to be FIRED. There is more than enough money to support the TSAs core functions, bad management is no excuse. Let a few heads roll and the imaginary problems will go away. Replace excuse, makers with qualified people, and the imaginary problems will go away.

Meanwhile, Sec. of State John Kerry promises to borrow another $100M to hand over to our "friends" in Egypt. Until we stop borrowing money to give away to foreign countries that want nothing else but "Death to America", I don't want to hear another word from this administration, or his sycophants in con-gress, about how this 2% less increase in spending (from a 19% increase to 17% over last years non-budget) is going to hurt this country.

It is okay for Kerry to give Egypt $250 Million, but the Sequestration will hurt the economy?

@Progress2day Iowa GOP Lawmakers Try To Curtail Divorce, Worry It Makes Young Women More 'Promiscuous' huff.to/1012Jrz

All 50 states currently allow no-fault divorce. Betsey Stevenson, an economist at the University of Pennsylvania who has studied divorce, has found that such laws help women, leading to a drop in domestic violence.

The Iowa legislation, according to NBC 13, would allow divorce only in cases of adultery, physical or sexual abuse, imprisonment or if one partner is missing for more than a year or the couple has lived apart for more than two years.
