Robert J. Dams Recognition Day is Proclaimed
Police Chief Dams is retiring on Dec. 31.
The Greendale Village Board voted Tuesday to proclaim Dec. 31 Robert J. Dams Recognition Day.
Dams is retiring Dec. 31 after 37 years of service with the Greendale Police Department.
Dams started off as a janitor and dispatcher in the 1970s. Within months he was promoted to police officer. Throughout the decades he received several promotion, till eventually he became chief of police in 1999.
Village President John R. Hermes offered Chief Dams, "Very Best wishes for a happy, healthy, successful retirement."

I have known Chief Dams for 35 years. He a very intelligent, qualified, and dedicated to his job
as Chief of Police at Greendale, Wi. Chief Dams is open-minded, loves people, strives relentlessly
to help people who need and are deserving of help, making sure the law is upheld at all times, and
bring to justice persons who have violated the law. Chief Dams has strived to make the Greendale
Police Department be perhaps the best in the State, and one of the best in the country.
Chief Dams is a Christian and stays strong with his faith in God. He is a person who never gives up.
I consider Chief Dams to be a real friend, and it is my privilege to know him.
My wife and I wish Chief Dams the very best in his retirement life soon to come.
