Update: Off-Duty Cop Accidently Fires Gun in Southridge Mall

The officer was reaching into his pocket to buy a pretzel when the gun went off.

An off-duty Milwaukee Police officer's gun was accidently discharged inside l while he was shopping on Wednesday afternoon. No one was injured and nothing was damaged.

The officer accidently discharged his firearm into the floor while reaching into his pocket to retrieve money in front of on the second level of the mall.

The officer was standing near the register when the gun went off and the bullet hit the floor.

The gun never fell to the floor, said Greendale Police Chief Bob Malasuk.

Greendale Police did not cite him.

Milwaukee Police Ed Chief Flynn told Fox6Now, "He was not trying to take any action. He didn't engage in any tomfoolery.  He was examined and found fit for duty by two separate police agencies.  It's an accident and the investigation will continue."

Southridge Mall manager Mary Mokwa said that Southridge has always has a ban on weapons, even before the conceal carry law went into effect.

 

Correction: The gun never fell to the floor as previously stated.
